Time To Get Back "Out There"

I have my grab & go oil painting setup ready, the weather's warming up, and I'm MORE than ready to get out and paint!

This painting was made in my own backyard a bit later in the summer when the Althias bloom. I think they're in the Rose Of Sharon family, but they have great purple blooms all summer. The bees and hummingbirds are very fond of them, too.

Dreaming of The West again

The oil painting above is called "Wotan's Throne."
Don't know who Wotan was, but this is one of the cool formations  in
The Grand Canyon
that is visible from The South Rim.
The formation seems to float in the air at times.
I may repaint it to accentuate that effect.

***Update***
I found out who Wotan is. It is the German translation for "Odin,"
the chief of the gods in Norse mythology.

Penelope typed me a message. Not sure what it means.

I have to say, she's really focused on that mouse.😊

Coming Soon

I've been cataloging  the prints I made last year in advance of putting them for sale online. Mostly hand printed linocuts that I made at the Red Onion Printshop.

I printed many of them on this press, which was built in Chicago in 1900. It was restored 2 years ago in Kennesaw at the Red Onion by Clemens Bak.

All of my prints were hand tooled from my original designs. It's a very labor intensive process, but one I enjoy.
So I will soon be putting the prints up for sale on Etsy. Lots of behind-the-scenes gruntwork before the site is up online. Hopefully it won't take too long. I'll post the progress here. 😊

I've been going back to paintings that I made on site and re-thinking them in the studio. Here is one that I painted recently from another painting I made on a cow farm just south of Lookout Mountain in Tennessee.

Close Up

Here's a close up from one of my paintings.
Maybe I'll use this close composition for a new painting.😊

Here's the whole painting, 14" x 18"

Found this today

I found this study while I was straightening the studio today.
It's a fairly quick, probably about 15 minutes, study in charcoal on newsprint.
Heightened  with a raw titanium chalk.

Walkin' Dog

A little watercolor study for a larger oil painting.
I think I could create a print from this idea as well; a lino-cut.
Anyway, I like his attitude.

Impatiens

It's called "Impatiens" because that's the kind of flowers.
24 color serigraph silkscreen print of my cat

Online Items

I've been listing lots of art items online lately. From original paintings, prints and drawings to t-shirts and coffee mugs. Search my name ( Rick Paller ) on ArtFinder.com or on RedBubble.com or even on twitter. Tons of cool items at very reasonable prices. Some are too reasonable 😊  Great to have for yourself or to give as gifts. Client gifts, thank you, or friendship. Check 'em out, ok?.......(okay)

One Hundred And Two

It was about 90 something today, with heat index near a hundred. Feels just crazy hot. Back in the 1990s, the day I made this oil painting it was 102 degrees. We were suffering a long hot drought, everyone and everything was parched and dry. And hot.
There came in the sky this beautiful cloud, so I put it in the painting. It turned out to be the very cloud that broke the drought. Just opened up and poured on me as I painted. It's an oil painting on prepared Masonite, so no harm done. In fact, it was super refreshing.
Anyway, I call the painting "One Hundred And Two" in memory of just how hot it was out in the field that day.

How to sign and label original prints

This from Fine Artist and Printmaker Angus Fisher.
I hope he doesn't mind me posting the information.
I think it's valuable for artists, and helpful to bring some
consistency to printmaking.

Print Site coming soon

In the beginning stages of opening a print site on Etsy to sell my prints. It'll be called Handmade Original Prints By Rick Paller or something like that. Gathering together the original fine art prints I've made over the last year, putting the editions in order, signing and numbering the originals.
Look for it soon!

Photos From The Printing Studio

I haven't slowed down my painting at all.
I just have added original, handmade prints to my humble offerings.
If you're looking for a less expensive way to own my art,
original prints is the way.
My online print sales shop/gallery will be opening soon.
It will be called Three Little Birds,
after my favorite Bob Marley song.
(Unless I run into copyright issues)
You'll find it on etsy.
I'll keep you posted on timing.
I expect to open the shop in the fall.
Stay tuned.

I've been spending time in the print shop lately. When I was in art school, printing was part of the curriculum. I loved the time I spent in the printing shop, making linocuts and etchings, and I am happy to be working on prints again. Look for my prints to show up online soon. I will be opening a print specialty gallery/shop on etsy later this summer or early fall. Check back here for updates!
